ROBi-E
This page will break down the process from concept to construction of ROBI-E the robot, an interactive art piece.
ROBI-E was built with 100% re-used and recycled parts, including all the electronics and most of the paint!
ROBI-E was built as a gift for the fantastic Birmingham artist, LiskBot.
Bots, Droids and Junk.
ROBI-E was built as a gift for the artist LiskBot, made from the following parts:
Radio, stage lights, boiler, newspaper printer, theatre set, laptop, RC car, rotating plate, CD player & a wifi extender (among other electronics).
Nothing New.
ROBI-E was built entrielty from junk as best as possible, including the wires, which did pose a few challenges.
Interactive.
Static sculptures are boring (or are at least not my style), and this needed to apply to ROBI-E. Responding to sounds in the room as stimuli occasionally as well as button presses. ROBI-E is able to move his head and arms using servos. He does also glow red as you can tell.
Kinda Cute.
As the name might imply, ROBI-E is based on and inspired by WALL-E. He appears fictionally functional but is heavily emotive visually and in the way he responds.

History is a Life.
The majority of the project involved using dirt, spray paints and old claggy paints to weather him as best as possible in order to make him feel well-used and give him a convincing history.
