Short & Sweet
This was a performance piece that needed a subtle touch. It was less than 30 minutes long, yet with a very slow-paced but impactful message, so the lighting design needed to reflect these concepts.
Simple Creative Concept
The basic principle of the design was to strip things away, bit by bit, until it felt as though it was a reflection of the performance itself. Side light removed, no top light, no direct back-light or even front light. For the majority of the performance, a simple tungsten glow coming from a front/side position (similar to a prosimium location) and a soft, angled light coming from overhead up-stage right.
Simple, effective and very impactful.

Darkness Designer
A basic concept of this design was simply to control the darkness in the performance space. Isolating the performer entirely to a very specific area using very indirect means. Ultimately, meaning the entire stage was left in darkness and the full focus of the audience was pulled to the desk and the performer down-stage centre. This allowed the performer's dialogue to carry the show and ensured the audience were left with a very hard-hitting, shared emotional experience as was intended by the director and creators of the piece.
